Show Notes

Last week I was honored to be part of a panel discussion on Compassion Fatigue and Burnout - specifically for the animal care field.  I was very moved by the response.  So much so that the next evening I recoded this episode with no outline, script or prep.  So forgive me if this comes across a little rough and less polished than previous episodes.

While both compassion fatigue and burnout develop slowly and over a period of time, only compassion fatigue is usually recognized by doctors and therapists.  They are similar in many ways, but compassion fatigue also carries with it the weight of vicarious trauma, or the adoption of the trauma from those under your care.

In this episode I offer up some current concepts around how we find ourselves in these situations. I discuss self objectification, the need for boundaries and the concept of reprioritizing all areas of our life.

Compassion fatigue and burn out are more complex that one podcast episode can cover.  But my hope is that this will offer an opportunity for those in need the first steps in understanding what they re going through and how they might find their way back to a healthier and more balanced life.
